Nebraska Senators Discuss LB289 and it’s Potential Impact Locally

Although the current property tax relief package received immediate opposition from Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts the bill’s sponsors and Revenue Committee Chair Senator Lou Ann Linehan says the opposition is not felt as strongly among other state senators.

According to Senator Linehan under the current formula 166 school districts receive little funding under LB289 every district would receive a third of their funding from the state. Chariman of the Education Committee and Lincoln County’s Representative Mike Groene says the only school district that the current formula truly benefits are the wealthy districts.

Senator Groene and Senator Linehan have spent a few days this week traveling the state to discuss LB289 with school officials in the eastern end of Nebraska and will take sometime this coming week to continue to travel the state and hear concerns and comments on the measure.
