Expanded Reporting Sought for Certain Political Advertisements in Nebraska

An attempt to close a loophole in Nebraska is underway with Senator Sue Crawford leading the charge. Under LB210 the state election law would require that an individual who spends more than $1,000 on electioneering communications would have increased regulation.  The bill would define electioneering communications as advertisements that clearly refer to a candidate or ballot initiative, are distributed within 30 days of an election and are directed to the electorate.

The Bellevue senator adds that  voter guides, news stories, government-issued communications and other communication deemed educational would be exempt from LB210. No one testified against LB210 and the committee took no immediate action on it.
