Flu facts – Different Strain Hitting Nebraska than the Rest of the Nation

There have been seven deaths due to the flu in Douglas County alone. Health Director Dr. Adi Pour says only three of the individuals had underlying health conditions. All of the victims were around 50 years of age and only three had underlying health conditions.

Dr. Pour says the strain that is circulating in Nebraska is different than what is seen in the rest of the country. She says the strain here may be more severe and the outcome is more severe than elsewhere. Nebraska is the number one state for the number of Tamiflu prescriptions being filled at pharmacies. There have been more than 2,500 confirmed cases of the flu reported with more than 300 last week alone.
