The North Platte Community College Knights men’s basketball team completed their season sweep of Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles on Friday, defeating them, 67-50, at the McDonald – Belton Gymnasium.
The first half was a low scoring affair with the Knights leading 27-22 at halftime. The Knights started the scoring on a field goal by Jakub Karwowski, from Warsaw, Poland, to give them a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles Tyrese Potoma made a three-pointer to give the Golden Eagles their only lead in the game.
Courtney Murrell, from Carrollton, Texas, gave the Knights the lead for good at 4-3. The Knights led by as much as 14 at 19-5. In the second half the Golden Eagles pulled within four at 35-31, but a three-pointer by Murrell got the Knights going.
The Knights had a double digit lead throughout the remainder of the game and led by as much as 20 at 65-45. The Knights, now 7-1 on the season were led in scoring by Karwowski and Murrell with 18 points each. Karwowski led the Knights with eight rebounds and had four block shots.
The Golden Eagles, now 4-8 on the season was led by Potoma with 15 points. Stephane Menzi was next in scoring with 11 points and Daequan Spragion added 10 points. David Appelgren had six rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. The Knights host Eastern Wyoming College tomorrow.
The game is designated Community Organization / Mentoring Day. All Mentors will be admitted free into the game. The game will be livestreamed at www.npccknights.com. Tip-off will be following the women’s game at approximately 4 p.m.
