Thirteen state senators have requested the legislature re-convene in a special session to re-consider proposals to lower property taxes.
Speaker Jim Scheer of Norfolk says certified letters are being sent to all 49 state senators. It takes the agreement of 33 senators to call the legislature back into session. If senators favor a special session, they are to return the letters to the Secretary of State.
Scheer says if the effort proves successful, the legislature would only have a two-week turn around to re-convene, not enough time according to the Speaker to adequately consider the issue.
