A North Platte staple for many years, the Taco Johns on Rodeo Road has closed for several years and the memories of after game soft tacos and soft drinks are forever etched into the minds of former Madison Junior High students and baseball and softball players growing up in the eighties and nineties, we hold them near and dear. Owners of DeLeon’s, a chain of Mexican Restaurants, 8 in Lincoln, 3 in Omaha and one in Crete, have purchased the former Taco Johns building. Tony DeLeon says they will start work on remodeling next week, managers from California are uprooting their families and relocating here in North Platte. The one question that needed to be asked “Will they make their own tamales?” The short answer is yes and the post script is they will have pork tamales and shredded beef tamales. And the village rejoices.
